Fortress Rum Repeats Medal Win at San Francisco World Spirits Competition
Posted Mar 23, 2016
Fortress™ Rum has once again brought a medal home to Nova Scotia from the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC).
Regarded as the most respected and influential spirits competition in the world, the 2016 SFWSC was the largest in its history with more than 1,850 submissions. Medal winners are chosen through a rigorous blind tasting process over four days to ensure integrity and impartiality. As a result, SFWSC medals set the standard for spirits excellence in the world.
“It is an honour to have our Fortress Rum again recognized by the San Francisco World Spirits Competition’s distinguished judging panel,” said Authentic Seacoast Distilling Company President Glynn Williams. “We set out to develop an iconic Nova Scotian spirit with our partners at Parks Canada and Fortress of Louisbourg Association that could compete with the best rums in the world and we are succeeding in realizing that bold vision. This is a rum that is truly worth protecting.”
Fortress™ Rum restores the 300-year history of the New France rum trade and is created by patiently maturing select Caribbean rum in oak barrels protected within the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. A smooth and well-structured amber rum, this premium, over-proof spirit delivers notes of oak, vanilla and tropical fruit.
